Beta Gamma Sigma Gives RMU Chapter “High Honors”

Friday, October 16, 2015

Pittsburgh -- Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honors society for business students, has awarded its Robert Morris University chapter with the status of high honors for the most recent academic year. Beta Gamma Sigma serves business programs accredited by AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The designation is given to chapters that are dedicated to academic excellence, with faculty officers who work to raise the honors society's stature on campus. Beta Gamma Sigma has more than 500 chapters in the United States and 22 countries and territories internationally. The Beta Gamma Sigma chapter at RMU has been consistently growing and now has approximately 500 student and faculty members. Last year alone it inducted almost 100 new members.

"It makes us feel very proud because we've been attempting to build this chapter ever since we received accreditation about six years ago," said Jodi Potter, chapter president and a professor of management. "It's the culmination of a lot of years of hard work and effort to try to build this chapter and create awareness of Beta Gamma Sigma, and to recognize these high-achieving honors students."

In April the chapter made its mark permanently on campus with a Beta Gamma Sigma key monument in the Rudolph Family Garden just outside of Massey Hall. "For us, 'The Key' is a big deal, because you can only be part of Beta Gamma Sigma if you are an AACSB-accredited school of business." Potter said. "It says a lot about all the hard work and effort that’s gone in over a long period of time"

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in business and accounting. AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by fewer than 5 percent of the world's business programs.
