The Pittsburgh Speakers Series Welcomes Dr. Sanjay Gupta

The Pittsburgh Speakers Series presented by Robert Morris University will continue its 2015-16 season on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with a talk from Dr. Sanjay Gupta, practicing neurosurgeon and multiple Emmy-winning chief medical correspondent for CNN. His talk takes place at 8 p.m. at Heinz Hall in the downtown Pittsburgh Cultural District and is open to Pittsburgh Speakers Series subscribers.
Gupta's medical training and public health policy experience distinguish his reporting on a range of health and science topics including brain injury, disaster recovery, health care reform, fitness, military medicine, and HIV/AIDS. He joined CNN in 2001 and has covered several critical events, including the Sept. 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. Gupta won an Emmy for his reporting on Charity Hospital in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and two more for his reporting on the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010.
In addition to his work for CNN, Gupta is a member of the staff and faculty at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He is associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital and regularly performs surgery at Emory University and Grady hospitals.
Gupta has also received numerous awards, including the first Health Communications Achievement Award from the American Medical Association’s Medical Communications Conference and the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award from the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications. Gupta received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate of medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School.
