There's always something a little cheesy about a love story. Especially this Colonial Couple's version.
Cathy and Jim caught each other's eye their senior year, when they were both RAs in Washington Hall. Weekly RA functions soon turned into weekly date nights that always involved a hot slice of Segneri's pizza. As the seasons faded from fall to winter and from winter to spring, their Friday night pizza dates remained the one constant for Cathy and Jim.
In April, nine months after they had begun their pizza date tradition, Jim returned to the dorm with a large pie and a smaller pizza box. "I told her it was a box of cannolis," Jim says. When they finished their pizza, Cathy opened the smaller box, and to her surprise, found it cannoli-less. Instead, it contained an engagement ring. They quickly set a date for that October.
Cathy got an associate's degree in legal secretarial studies that spring, while Jim earned his B.S.B.A. in accounting. Jim was in the military, so he was stationed in Oklahoma and then Texas, where they were married. He was then posted in Germany, so they celebrated their honeymoon in Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.
Now living in Flemington, N.J., Cathy and Jim have attended President's Council dinners in New York for the past eight years. They also joined the 2014 Alumni Tour that traveled to Budapest and Prague. Jim is on the School of Nursing and Health Sciences Board of Visitors. "We still consider Pittsburgh our home because that is where our lives started together," Cathy says. "Robert Morris is an important part of us."
And they lived happily ever after, with extra cheese.
