Maria Satira ‘12 is still an involved alum, all the way from North Carolina. Though she couldn't make the trip for Homecoming this fall for her five-year class reunion, Maria still helped the Class of 2012 win the Reunion Years Challenge with the most contributions to the RMU Student Fund. Maria also was a spokeswoman for her class gift committee as a student, and the vintage cannon that the Class of 2012 presented to their alma mater was fired several times at Homecoming as the Colonials defeated VMI 23-0.
Maria is the morning and noon news anchor for WNCT-TV in Greenville, N.C. She lives near the campus of East Carolina University, and many people in the college town assume she went there, but Maria enjoys educating people in North Carolina about RMU. “Just because you go to a small school doesn’t mean you can’t make a big impact," Maria says, "not only on the campus but on the world around you.”
She still reminisces her days in Delta Zeta, and recalls her freshman bid day as one of her fondest memories. Maria was also founder of the Italian American club, a freshman mentor, an accreditation committee representative, and a fitness manager at the old rec center. She was excited to learn about the new Student Recreation and Fitness Center that just opened on campus. “RMU is just a part of who I am,” Maria says, “It helped shape me into the woman I am today and it will shape me in the future.”
