Winter is over!
Monday, March 23, 2015
It has been a cold and snowy winter, but that has not slowed down the alumni office or the events and activities we hold for our alumni. In February I was in Florida, having dinner and brushing up on my acting skills. All those in attendance for the Orlando event got to witness my acting debut as a guest member of the Sleuth Mystery Dinner.
In Tampa 35 or so alumni joined me for an evening of good food, drinks, and Lightning hockey. Alumna Heidi Bushko, who also helps coordinate these events, said it best: "Hockey in Florida, with 70 degree days -- it doesn't get any better than this."
As I made my way back up the East Coast I made a stop in Washington, D.C., to hear alumna and former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria and the Republic of Congo to speak about her new book at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. What great community turnout we had for the event, from both the D.C. area and our alumni.
As the month came to an end, we celebrated our fifth Legacy Recognition and reception in Sewall. This yearly program has grown from 35 folks the first year to over 120 folks this year. The event is a celebration of RMU yesterday, today, and tomorrow, with representation of alumni, current students, and potential incoming freshman partaking in the festivities.
So hopefully with warmer weather right around the corner, we will see you at an upcoming event.
